LIBRARY TAPES
my computer has been crashing for two weeks straight. i have been trying to post an update all week. sorry for the lag re the library. there is another entity in hot pursuit of digitizing the tapes and they have submitted a grant to incorporate this task into a larger project. It is the Bright School and they are trying to launch an oral history project on their alum. I have a call in to the project director. i'll find out some more info - but i think they need tomeet CBURNS enterprises and the amazing interactive wonder world of oral history's online.... i think the timing is bad tho for Highland Park + Main street immediate needs to have the tapes digitized NOW!.. but we shall see....

UPDATE:
i have one quote on the transfer of cassette to cd and it is rather affordable. less than $8 a CD and that includes an additional master copy for the library. Whatever I do I am going to have an extra made for the library. I have some money in my HP budget for discretionary costs as this. I can at the very least use that money for the HP-related tapes. I don't know exactly how many tapes the library has in total but it might be affordable to do them all at the same time. Not sure if all of that can come out of my budget; i'll be speaking with my patrons about that this afternoon. Jim have you made any advances on the use of these tapes?
ps - there are a total of 59 tapes at the library.
= $472.00
right now i know i want at least 7 tapes....
I have not been back to the tapes, yet. Since my role in the mural project changed, so has my focus. I have run across a couple of stories about race-relations in Chattanooga in the first third of the century and am tracking down some leads on those. I'm sure I will want to go back to the tapes after the current leads dry up. Regardless, my interest in gettin these tapes archived has not changed. Perhaps we can talk about that in our soon-to-be-scheduled meeting...
